There’s no need to travel far,

let the Courir du Mardi Gras

(Coo-Reer deh Mahr-dee-Grah) come to you!!!

This program was developed by a former school teacher to introduce children to the “country” Mardi Gras. The presentation lasts 45 minutes and consists of four parts:

1. Students participate in a skit, complete with props, music, and costumes, to understand the series of events in the courir. Students actually ride on hobby horses, approach a home, and exchange entertainment for gumbo ingredients.

2. A story board is used to tell the story, The Chicken That Got Away. Students are challenged to make story predictions.

3. Cajun French words and phrases from the story are reviewed and Mardi Gras prizes are awarded.

4. Students are encouraged to become writers themselves by taking pictures at special events then assessing those pictures to identify a story pattern.
